Autumn Adults Introduction to Forest School Courses

Book one or both Autumnal courses to fully integrate a range of Forest School activities and experiences.

We will offer different activities during each course as we are following the season and the affordances nature has to offer. During each course we will explore what Forest School is in different ways.

Can be used as a (CPD) Continuous Professional Development. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the course from Earth Force Education and Wild Awake.

Our September session:

‘Powerful Plants, Trees, Tonics and Dyes: An Autumnal Introduction to Forest School’

When: Saturday Sept 29th, 10am to 4.30pm

Where: Phoenix Park, Furry Glen

Course Description:

At this amazingly abundant time of the year we will harvest some of natures wild bounty and offer you the choice to make and do some wonderful art projects; including:

  • Natural inks and dyes – bring a white t-shirt or tea towel for tie-dying.
  • We will make a winter tonic from wild plants.
  • Clay printing
  • Tree identification techniques
  • Fire lighting techniques as a group.
  • Other fun seasonal nature based crafts and games for you to choose from.
  • Time for reflection – a mindful sit spot in the woods, very powerful at this time to meditate on what we want to integrate during the dark half of the year.

We will introduce you to the main concepts and ethos of Forest School. You will experience the flow of a typical session and experience our approach to enabling children to assess risk-taking.

Our October session:

‘Storytelling, Prehistoric Lighting Techniques, Crafting by the Fire: An Autumnal Introduction to Forest School’

When: Saturday Oct 20th, 10am to 4.30pm

Course Description:

The stags are rutting, the end of the wild harvest is coming and the time to bed down for the darker months is upon us. We invite you to open your senses to nature and our human story. Both have so much to teach us that will keep us warm and well during the winter months ahead.

We will explore:

  • Making fat lamps, prehistoric lighting techniques to guide your way into the darker months
  • ahead.
  • Storytelling with the theme of Samhain and the Cailleach, goddess of Ancestors and winter.
  • Natural cordage (rope making with diffent kinds of natural fibres)
  • Wildlife tracking, we will learn to follow track and sign. The stags are rutting at this time in the Park.
  • We will use some clay in art making and learn more about the celtric tree calendar
  • Fire-by-friction lighting techniques

We will introduce you to the main concepts and ethos of Forest School. You will experience the flow of a session and our approach to risk taking when delivering a Forest School session.
