Ciara Hinksman began Earth Force Education (EFE) in 2009. EFE offers experiences ranging from healthy outdoor play in the woods to deep nature connection on the web of life. We raise awareness about some of the key issues facing our planet today, teaching children about the natural world and our place in it. We follow on from the basic tenets of Richard Louvs’ book “Last Child in the Woods” which tells us about the detrimental consequences of a childhood removed from nature. Louv describes evidence to support rising levels of what he calls “nature deficit disorder”, the indicators of which include lack of empathy, behavioural difficulties, isolation, obesity, physical co-ordination and arrested intelligence.
As a Heritage in Schools specialist, Ciara delivers workshops suitable for both primary and post-primary level Green School Action Plans in Recycling, Energy, Water, Biodiversity and Transport using bush-craft, science experiments, hands-on activities and games. We explore how our ancestors may have lived without electricity and cultivated healthy relationships with each other and the land to feed themselves and live well.
Ciara coordinated the first internationally recognised Forest School Programme Leadership Trainings in R.O.I. in September 2013 in association with Circle of Life Rediscovery who are UK based and offer exceptional Forest School and Outdoor Education trainings.
EFE uses creative techniques to facilitate and mentor adults and children in regenerative culture. Regenerative cultural development has an evolutionary component to it; a natural flow where diversity is embraced and new growth is nurtured and explored. Therefore untenable patterns used in the past can be refined or released while drawing on new creative energies. We honour our Ancestors, mentors and teachers in knowing that we stand on the shoulders of giants. We want to pay forward all that we have learnt to the next generations.
We have highly trained instructors from Ireland, UK and USA who come together to work with like-minded individuals, groups and organisations delivering basic to advanced level workshops and classes in the following:
Sustainable Energy Education, Forest School, Nature Awareness, Bird Language, Primitive Living Skills, Resilient Community Development, Bush-craft, Survival, Tracking, Ecology and Remote Wilderness Medicine.
Sometimes when we connect to our own skills we can more easily connect to others. Together we aim to gain confidence in the outdoors, practice working together, learn self-reliance and positive group building around the central fires of community, story-telling and music. We hope you find some way to grow through connecting with us, as we have grown having fuelled our fires of creativity from the spark and care of our own elders and teachers.
